In 2009, Andréas, a 38-year-old husband and father of three, learns he has cancer. Three years later, the prognosis doesn’t look good, but Andréas has hope. His wife, Anna Karin, is more pessimistic. Their three young daughters still know nothing about the disease that is quickly taking their father away from them.
Despite fighting and hoping, Andréas decides to leave behind a record for his small children in a series of interviews and enlists director Malin Nicander’s help. Through this meeting, the film idea of making a film is born. When Andréas goes in for a routine doctor’s appointment but instead gets a death sentence, the film took on its own life.
As Malin continues following the family in the years after Andréas’s passing, she finds that she is no longer making a film about death. She is now making a film about life. In this way, the film is about that which is left behind instead of that which is lost.
